Notable airports include Eastern Iowa Airport (CID) in Cedar Rapids, which was home to Orville and Wilbur Wright from 1878 to 1881. In 1928, the airport became the home of the first airplane owned and operated by any U.S. newspaper with a full-time pilot on the payroll (the Des Moines Register and Tribune) and the first privately owned plane of its class in the nation. It was a 5-person Fairchild cabin monoplane named “Good News”
