AIRPORT INFORMATION

Massachusetts has 41 public airports, including 8 airports providing scheduled commercial service, 3 reliever airports, 17 general aviation airports and 13 other public-use airports and seaplane bases.

Notable airports include Nantucket Memorial Airport (ACK) which was used for the exterior shots of the fictional “Tom Nevers Field” in the long-running TV sitcom “Wings”, and Hanscom Field (BED) in Bedford, which hosted The Beatles’ chartered aircraft when they arrived in town in September 1964 for an appearance at Boston Garden. Hanscom Field was selected as an alternative to Boston’s Logan International (BOS) because it was thought that the singing group’s immense popularity would cause too much congestion there. Massachusetts airports provide access to Boston, the Cape Cod National Seashore, the Boston Harbor Islands, and the New England Summer Nationals, the largest automotive event on the East Coast.
