Global Positioning System

What Is a Global Positioning System (GPS)

A global positioning system, more commonly known as GPS, is a navigational tool that uses satellites to pinpoint an aircraft’s exact position. GPS is now standard equipment in aircrafts and tracks not just location but also altitude, speed, bearing, distance from or to different checkpoints, remaining fuel, flight time, and distance to the nearest emergency airport.
