What Can Horsepower Be Used For in Aviation?

Horsepower is a measurement of the power, or rate of work done by the motor. Horsepower was originally used to compare the power of a steam engine train to the power of a horse. It’s not used often in aviation, but can be used to calculate the speed of an aircraft if miles per hour isn’t known.
