Knots True Airspeed (KTAS)
What Does Knots True Airspeed (KTAS) Mean?
Knots true airspeed is the true airspeed, or airspeed of the aircraft as compared to the airmass it is flying through, or its velocity compared to that of the atmosphere, measured in knots, or nautical miles. Because knots true airspeed, or KTAS, is equivalent to the aircraft’s groundspeed, provided there are no external factors affecting it, KTAS is used in flight plans, pilot reports, aircraft manuals, aircraft specifications, performance measurements, and performance comparisons.
