What Is Positioning Time for a Plane?

Positioning time is the amount of time it takes an airplane to position itself for departure. Positioning time is similar to the time it takes to taxi, except that it’s measured from the aircraft’s original position, which can be anywhere in the airport, which means that positioning time can vary. Traffic on the runway, incoming aircraft, and holding delays instituted by air traffic control can all affect positioning time.
