When you fly commercially, you have two options for taking your pet with you: under the seat in front of you in an approved crate or in the cargo hold. If you choose to fly on a private jet charter instead, you can not only take your pet on your trip but keep your furry family member with you in the cabin. Here’s what you’ll need to do to ensure a smooth flight with your pet.
Inform the Private Jet Charter
If you’re intending to fly with a pet, it’s vital to let the charter company know ahead of time so they can prepare. At this time, they can also let you know if they have any requirements you’ll need to meet for the safe transportation of your pet.
Ensure Your Pet’s Documentation Is Up-To-Date
Before you fly, you’ll need to make sure that your pet’s documentation is up-to-date. You’ll need to bring these documents with you because they may be required at your destination, especially if you’re traveling internationally. It’s important to check not only for the paperwork that is required by the government at your destination but also with your private jet charter company so you are ready to go when it’s time for your flight.
The paperwork you’ll need may include:
- Pet identification
- Proof of ownership
- Vaccination records
- Any other medical records
- Certificate of health
- Pet passport
- Proof of a microchip
Pamper Your Pet Ahead of Time
Prior to your flight, it’s a good idea to take your pet to be groomed. This isn’t just so that your pet will look good but so they’ll be completely comfortable on the plane. You can ensure that their fur is in top condition. You’ll also want to make sure that their nails are trimmed; if a pet’s nails are too long, they could scratch the aircraft and damage the interior.

Pack Your Pet’s Favorite Items
Some pets are nervous on planes. While being with you in the cabin may help to mitigate this fear, it may not be enough for particularly fearful pets. Make sure to pack plenty of treats as well as their favorite toys or a beloved blanket. This will not only help them to feel more comfortable and secure during the flight but can keep them entertained as well.
Bring Plenty of Food and Water
You’ll also want to make sure that you bring enough food and water to keep your pet sustained throughout the flight. You can bring their usual food and water dishes so they’re more comfortable and feed them as often as you usually would throughout the flight.
Don’t Forget Your Pet’s Medication
If you have medication that you give your pet, it’s important to bring it with you for your trip. If your pet is a nervous flyer, your vet may prescribe medication to keep them calm throughout the flight. Make sure to follow the instructions precisely so you administer the medicine correctly.
Keep Your Pet Secure During the Flight
Once on board the aircraft, you’ll still need to keep your pet secure. Turbulence could occur unexpectedly, which could be dangerous if your pet is loose. On a private jet charter, you can use either a carrier or a harness, whichever is more comfortable for your pet.
