What Is a Waypoint?

A waypoint is a stopping point during a journey that marks the end of one leg and the beginning of another. The term waypoint is also used to refer to the aircraft’s position in between legs of the journey. Another type of waypoint is a navigational waypoint, which is used to help pilots determine their exact location during every part of a journey.
