But where should you travel for the holidays? With the coronavirus pandemic still ongoing, many countries are limiting international travelers, even those traveling on private jets. But there are a lot of domestic destinations that can make your holidays both memorable and magical.
Christmas Shopping in New York City
New York City is known for its magical holiday decorations. There are decorations all over the city, but it’s best known for the enormous Christmas tree at the Rockefeller Center. There are also holiday performances to attend, such as Christmas Spectacular Starring the Radio City Rockettes, which has returned in 2021 after its cancellation due to COVID-19 in 2020. In addition, there are plenty of shopping opportunities throughout the city, from luxury stores to holiday markets.
Relaxing Beaches in the Florida Keys
If you’re tired of the cold weather, the Florida Keys are an excellent warm-weather destination. Florida is known as the Sunshine State for a reason. There are warm beaches on which you can relax and gorgeous scenic drives that you can take throughout the islands. Key West is the most famous and popular of the Florida Keys, but there are more islands if you’re looking for a holiday away from crowds.
Skiing in Colorado
The holiday season is the perfect time to take advantage of wintry weather and head to Colorado for a skiing vacation. There are numerous ski resorts across the state, many of which offer holiday-themed events, such as the one at Beaver Creek. Even though the weather is cold, ski resorts often offer accommodations to their guests to help them stay warm and cozy after a day on the slopes, including a heated pool. Another advantage is that you’re not far from the numerous national parks that the American southwest has to offer, which look very different in the winter than at other times of the year.
A European Christmas in Solvang, California
You don’t have to go to Europe to experience Europe. Solvang, a city in California founded by Danish immigrants to the United States in the early 20th century, is best known for its European-style architecture and businesses. The city celebrates Christmas every year with its annual Julefest (pronounced like Yule fest), which lasts from the end of November, throughout the entire month of December, until January 1st. Julefest involves holiday-themed events and activities ranging from tree-lighting and holiday parades to a Santa Village and nativity pageants. There’s also excellent food to be had throughout the entire holiday season.
